Experience

As a Principal in Frazier & Deeter’s Tax Practice, Michael Truscott provides tax consulting and compliance advisory, with a focus on the real estate industry with an emphasis in Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs and UPREITs) and partnerships. He brings over 25 years of experience to his clients. Before joining the firm, Michael worked in a variety of roles in both public and private tax with a concentration in real estate. His experience includes serving as Vice President of Corporate Tax for a $3.5 billion national real estate company, Tax Director at a Big 4 accounting firm and Director of Tax for a $1 billion REIT traded on the New York Stock Exchange.  

Michael’s expertise includes overall tax compliance, tax due diligence and advice regarding structuring around various transactions, especially as they relate to REIT issues. He has served on REIT Investment Committees to provide advice on real estate transactions with regards to REIT qualification under current tax laws and regulations.  

Michael coordinates with fund controllers, tax authorities, independent auditors and other third parties to ensure proper earnings and profit calculations. He has experience participating in new product development, including providing insight and strategy for related tax implications as well as overseeing quarterly and annual REIT and RIC compliance tests.
