    J.R. Miller is a member of the firm’s Executive Management Committee, the Vice-Chairman of the Manufacturing & Distribution Group and a lead tax partner in the Atlanta office tax practice. He has served as Head of the Tax Department before joining the Executive Committee. In his role as head of the tax department, his responsibilities included streamlining the tax methodology and processes while advancing the technological capabilities of the department. He has over 26 years of experience, starting his career with Arthur Andersen (Atlanta) and practicing the last 22 years with Frazier & Deeter, LLC.

    He is a leading member of the Retail, Manufacturing & Distribution Services Group at the firm. His corporate tax expertise has allowed him to structure and assist clients with mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, ESOPs and corporate finance transactions. Many of his clients are middle market companies that are privately owned or backed by private equity. His clients operate in a variety of industries including retail, manufacturing, distribution and technology.

    In the areas of taxation, J.R. has been instrumental in helping clients manage their tax liabilities through the use of effective tax strategies such as LIFO for inventory accounting, Research and Development Tax Credits for new technologies and manufacturing processes, State and local tax incentives for growing companies, IC-Discs for export companies, Cost Segregation Studies for added tax depreciation deductions, Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) structuring and implementation and international structuring to minimize taxes by jurisdictions. He is also frequently involved with conflict resolution matters, representing his clients before the Internal Revenue Service as well as representing clients throughout the audit process. He has successfully drafted Private Letter Ruling requests, Voluntary Disclosure Agreements, Offers in Compromise and Applications for Changes in Method of Accounting for clients.
