Atlanta CPA Partner, Ruth Bartlett, Receives Title from Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Ruth Bartlett, an assurance services partner, who has been at Frazier & Deeter for 21 years, was named the 2011 Woman of the Year for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Georgia Chapter at the Grand Finale celebration on June 4th at the Loew's Atlanta Hotel. Ruth raised over $101,000 and the total raised by the twelve candidates in the campaign was an outstanding $440,811 for cancer research.
Ruth's Story
As a past president and 18-year member of the board, Ruth has been very passionate about helping LLS. She believes in their mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
As a theme song for the campaign, she chose "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge. One chorus line, "We are family, I got all my sisters with me," defined her mission for this campaign. With the help of her two sisters, Linda and Terri, Ruth participated in the campaign in memory of our mom, Ann Bartlett, a dedicated LLS volunteer. Through example, she taught her daughters the importance of charitable giving. Ruth's focus during the campaign and in working for LLS was not only on fundraising, but also encouraging patients and their families in the struggle to beat cancer.
Ruth noteably was the first female partner at Frazier & Deeter and the first female to become president of the Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA), headquartered in Atlanta.
About the MWOY Competition
The 2011 Man of the Year, Harry Jones, a partner at Edge Capital Partners LLC, raised $66,259. All funds raised were in honor two local children who are battling blood cancers but are doing well. Jordan, our Boy of the Year, is 6 years old and Christina, our Girl of the Year, is 11 years old.
The Man & Woman of the Year campaign is a fundraising competition among individuals in the community who vie for the honor of being the Man or Woman of the Year. Candidates are judged solely on their fundraising efforts-each dollar raise comprises one vote. The candidates who raise the most funds to help advance the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during a ten-week campaign, beginning at the Kickoff Party and culminating at the Grand Finale Celebration, will be named the Man & Woman of the Year. The candidates raise money in honor of local blood cancer survivors, the Boy and Girl of the Year.
